RE:alternator waja 1.6 auto   yup, the rpm is quite high in the morning, that's normal i guess... what i did was clean the throttle body @ 'bawah pokok' workshop for 30 bucks, then tune it @ proton, bought the Pivot voltage stabilizer + 6 points grounding(most importantly ground to the alternator)... the result a bit higher torque uphill, smooth gear transmission & can reach 175++km/h on my way 2 klia... [:)] even the motorboat sound is gone when i reach 55km/h onwards,i can even hear the aircond sound when cruising 140km/h...well,it works for me,just thought of sharing it with u guys...oh ya,dont forget to change your tyre to a quiter one,it really helps when ur cruising on the highway... *waja 2001,odometer 173000++km alredy...[B)]

RE:alternator waja 1.6 auto   I understand the rpm needle will go up high but not to the extent of 1500-1800. Mine is around 1200-1300 during cold start then drop to 700-800. My mileage now 87000 but only 2 years old[:(] Yours still in good shape.

Cold starting is like that mah...all EFI cars are like this in the morning. It will settle to less than 1000 rpm when the engine reached it's optimal temp. This morning OK ady. Back to normal idling speed. Dunno what happened yesterday. Still, appreciate anymore feedbacks from those who have experienced this problem. Will check it out on my next service. Btw, my waja is almost 5 yrs old and current mileage is 82500 kms. [;)]

RE:alternator waja 1.6 auto   Have you checked your spark plugs and its cables..might be just some loose connections somewhere or maybe due to bad spark plugs.

Erratic RPM has nothing to do with the alternator but is usually due to to a dirty or faulty idle valve and other ignition system components. Besides, since yours is an automatic transmission car, there is another ECU for the auto gearbox which may not be sending in the proper signals to the engine management system thus the irregular RPM. If your alternator is faulty, a red battery symbol (the +- symbol) will appear on your instrument panel indicating there's a problem with the vehicles charging system.

RE:alternator waja 1.6 auto   if you buy it at kedai potong...take skng03's advice... ask the potong shop to dismantle the altenator from a complete engine rather than buying the one inside the bucket which is predismantled.
