RE:High Engine Oil Consumption in QR25DE!!!   I obtained the original quotes from en.Wikipedia.org where anyone can post article. I do see similar report from www.qr25de.net (see below for details). Based on the info, there is a certain precentage of defective engine on the market. It may only affect US market, but we don't have info to be sure! The safest action we can do is to monitor the oil level regularly. FYI, both Altimas and Nissan Sentra SE-Rs in US use the same engine as our 2.5L X-Trail. Quote from www.qr25de.net ------------------------------------------------------------------ Nissan Stops Sale On Some 2006 Model Year Four-Cylinder Altimas and Sentra SE-Rs GARDENA, CA (June 2, 2006) – Nissan North America, Inc., today directed its dealers to stop selling certain 2006 model year, four-cylinder Altimas and Nissan Sentra SE-Rs because of reports of excessive oil consumption while it continues to investigate potential causes. The condition, if not detected or addressed properly, could lead to the potential for engine damage, or failure which could result in a fire in extreme cases. The National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration has been advised of Nissan’s action. Nissan estimates that about 100,000 Altimas and Sentra SE-Rs built between January and May 2006 may be subject to excessive oil consumption. There have been about 215 reports of excessive oil consumption, mostly from rental-car fleets, and 17 reports of engine fires, resulting in one minor injury. Nissan is aggressively working to find a definite cause and solution for the condition. Nissan is advising owners of these vehicles that they should frequently check and maintain the engine oil level. If the engine oil level is kept at the proper level, there should be no engine damage and no risk of engine failure or a resulting fire. If the engine oil level is not registered at all on the dip stick, customers are urged to immediately add oil and bring their vehicle to a Nissan dealer. In the interest of customer satisfaction, Nissan has extended the engine portion of the Powertrain Coverage of the vehicles’ warranty on Altimas and Sentra SE-Rs built during the January to May 2006 period to 84 months or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Nissan is taking these actions as part of its commitment to provide the highest levels of product quality and customer satisfaction. -------------------------------------------------------------------

RE:High Engine Oil Consumption in QR25DE!!!   That is only for Sentras and Altimas where the engine is different from the ones fitted to the X-Trails..If thsi the case..the nthere would be worldwide recall for the XTrail engines.

Somehow, early this year Japanese marks in US have to downgrade their hp & torks performance if I'm not mistaken. This issue was also highlighted at MTMForum. I will try to locate the thread and link it to here.

High Engine Oil Consumption in QR25DE!!!   All, Have you heard of this news from US site? Not sure if our X-Trail are safe! I'll start monitoring my oil level every week from now on! Quote from: - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_QR_engine ----------------------------------------------- In June 2006, it came to Nissan's attention that approximately 85,000 Altimas and 2,000 Sentra SE-Rs equipped with the QR25DE and built between January and May 2006 may experience unusually high oil consumption. This can lead to premature engine failure and possibly a fire. While Nissan investigates the problem, owners of the affected vehicles are being advised to check their oil frequently (every 700 mi [1127 km]), and dealers have been instructed to place the affected vehicles on sales hold.[8] ----------------------------------------------- On the same site, it also suggests that Nissan has over stated the power & torque numbers!!! ----------------------------------------------- In addition to the physical problems suffered by the QR25DE, Nissan's official stated horsepower and torque numbers seem to disconnect from power measurements taken by the general public. Though rated for 175 hp and 180 ft·lbf of torque in the Nissan Altima and Sentra SE-R Spec-V, the actual power of the engine may be significantly lower. Multiple dynamometer readings performed by a range of people in an assortment of cars over several years have shown that the engine more than likely produces ~160 hp and ~170 ft·lbf of torque. Parasitic loss alone seems an unlikely candidate for the discrepancy as automatic transmission loss would approximate 28% and manual transmission loss 19%. --------------------------------------------------- We should call ETCM to clarify the matters.......!!!
